Choosing a GAF Certified Roofer in Clear Lake: Questions to Ask

Manufacturer credentials can help you narrow a roofing contractor search, but they are only one part of a sound decision. Homeowners in Clear Lake and the Houston Bay Area should also compare the proposed roof system, communication, installation scope and written warranty terms.

Verify the contractor's exact designation

GAF's contractor directory currently lists RANLOCK Roofing and Construction LLC as GAF Certified. The listing identifies the Houston office and the company's phone number. Use the directory to confirm the current designation when you are ready to choose a contractor.

Different manufacturer designations are distinct. Ask a contractor to name the designation it holds and show the current manufacturer listing. A badge should connect to information you can verify rather than substitute for a clear project proposal.

Ask which roof system is being proposed

Request the names of the shingles and other system components in your estimate. Discuss underlayment, leak barriers where applicable, starter products, ridge products, ventilation and flashing. Ask how the recommended materials fit the roof's shape and condition. A recognizable shingle brand alone does not explain every part of the installation.

A useful proposal also explains tear-off, disposal, protection of landscaping, treatment of existing roof details and the final cleanup. Ask how hidden conditions will be documented and discussed if they are discovered during the project.

Review warranty eligibility in writing

GAF's listing states that RANLOCK is eligible to offer the System Plus Limited Warranty for qualifying installations. Eligibility does not mean every project automatically receives that warranty. Ask which warranty is included, which components and installation conditions apply, how registration is handled and where to find the full terms.

Discuss manufacturer coverage and contractor workmanship coverage separately. Keep the signed scope, product information, warranty documents and project photographs together. If two proposals quote different warranties, compare the actual written terms rather than the names alone.

Verify the exact contractor designation, ask which roof system is proposed, and review written scope and warranty terms.

Questions to discuss during your roofing or exterior evaluation.

Choose a contractor you can communicate with

Ask who your point of contact will be, how schedule updates are communicated and what happens if the scope changes. A roofing decision becomes easier when the contractor can connect the inspection findings to the materials, the work and the documents you will receive.

What a documented roof replacement should leave behind

A contractor credential and a successful roof installation are different kinds of evidence. Before work begins, homeowners can request a written scope identifying the shingle model, roof-deck protection, starter, ridge, leak-barrier and ventilation products, plus the planned handling of pipe boots, roof-to-wall flashing and other penetrations. The exact materials depend on the roof, the selected system and the signed proposal.

During tear-off and installation, ask for photographs that identify the roof section and date. Useful records include the uncovered deck before repairs, documented decking changes, underlayment and leak-barrier placement, flashing at transitions, ventilation changes, and representative finished details. Photos cannot prove every concealed installation requirement was met; preserve delivery labels, inspection paperwork and the agreed change orders as supporting records.

At closeout, request the final product list, invoices, approved change orders, warranty documents and any inspection or permit documentation required for that specific property. For coastal or windstorm-coverage properties, check whether the applicable Texas Department of Insurance windstorm inspection and certificate process applies before work is covered; requirements vary by location and scope.

Verify Ranlock's actual GAF credential

GAF's contractor directory currently identifies RANLOCK Roofing and Construction LLC as GAF Certified, contractor ID 1164156, at its Houston office. It does not identify Ranlock as Master Elite. GAF explains that its System Plus Limited Warranty may be available on qualifying installations, subject to eligibility and written terms. Verify the current designation and the exact roof system before relying on a warranty claim.
